About our firm

Our team has a wealth of experience that will suit your every need. Thomas Kouter Attorneys is an independent and dynamic law firm comprising mainly of women lawyers who provide professional legal services to individuals, associates, groups, private and public companies, and government departments. The firm conducts business primarily in South Africa.

BUSINESS PHILOSOPHY

The firm’s business philosophy is to become the country’s preferred independent black women owned law firm by providing superior legal services in all matters.

In certain instances, we believe in strengthening our knowledge and resource base by developing working relationships with other law firms, both locally and internationally either in consortia or association.

We intend to further enhance our firm’s cross-jurisdiction knowledge by seconding staff to international associates’ offices when working jointly on a client project more especially the National Bar Association members, in which the Black Lawyers Association has an exchange programme relationship.

We endeavour to grow our profile internationally on the following basis:

  • Referrals of work on reciprocal basis
  • Referrals of correspondent work
  • Handling of relatively more complex matters, on a joint basis to the mutual benefit of both firms to the advantage of the client

We have requisite skills to advice governments, parastatals and the private sector on the legal structuring of major projects as part of a consortium.

SERVICE APPROACH

Our scope of duties will be in line with the requirements of the client which includes:

  • Handling of day to day general inquiries
  • Corporate and commercial work, including property law
  • Law of contract and delict
  • Labour law
  • Attendance of coordination meetings to discuss outstanding legal matters and to submit short presentations on developments in the property industry or in general, which affects client and its business

  • Providing updates on legal Acts, articles and reported case law
